Position Description: Position Title: Head Safety - Operation Grade / Level: M-4 Division / Department: HSE&S Location: Lanjigarh
1. JOB PURPOSE The Head of Safety is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the safety management system for the entire organization. This includes ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations, standards, and best practices. The Head of Safety also plays a key role in identifying and mitigating safety risks and responding to safety incidents.

3. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Develop and implement the safety management system for the organization.
- Effective implementation of Training Program, Vedanta Safety Standards, Observation Management, Incident Management, and Safety Alerts Recommendation.
- Ensure Safety modules of Vedanta Sustainability Assurance Program are effectively implemented at the site.
- Plan Safety budget for effective implementation of Sustainability Projects under the Health & Safety Community of Practice.
- KPIs: Zero Injury, VSAP score > Benchmark, 100% compliance of Safety Alerts recommendation.
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Submissions of Annual Return, Reports, compliances, etc., as sought by the Statutory Bodies (e.g., DFB).
- Represent the organization to Statutory Government bodies, International Organizations, and Industry Committees.
- Foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities, agencies, service providers, and other stakeholders.
- KPIs: Zero Non-Compliance, Timely renewal of license and submission of return/compliance acknowledgement.
Identify and mitigate Safety risks
- Review Site Safety Risk e.g., HIRADEC, HAZOP, LOPA, etc.
- Effective implementation of Permit to Work System and Process Safety Management.
- 100% updated Risk Assessments (reviewed in a year).
- 100% compliance to PTW system.
Respond to Safety incidents
- Review and Update Site Emergency Response Plans.
- Periodic Mock drills in each scenario.
- Ensure Availability of adequate resources to handle Identified Emergency Scenarios.
- Support Incident Investigation and ensure 100% completion of Incident Investigations within the timeframe.
- Track Internal Incident and Group Safety Alert CAPA.
- Review of Site Emergency Plan once a year.
- Mock drills in each scenario in a year as per the plan.
Conduct Safety audits and inspections
- Ensure a robust program on Internal & External Audit.
- Compliance of Internal/External Audit Plan.
Develop and deliver Safety training programs
- TNI of 100% of site employee.
- Training to 100% of site employees as per TNI.
- 100% compliance with Training Target.
- 2 Mandays Training per person per year.
Promote a culture of safety awareness
- National Safety Week Campaign.
- Road Safety Campaign.
- Minimum participation of 50% of Site employees in each campaign.
- Digitization of HSE Management System.
- 100% implementation of ENABLON at the site.
- 100% use of portals in HSE data analysis and management.
- 100% logging of Safety performance and management parameters in ENABLON.
4. MAJOR CHALLENGES
- Maintaining a high level of safety performance in a dynamic operating environment.
- Promoting a culture of safety and awareness among all employees.
- Ensuring compliance with a wide range of HSE regulations and standards.

6. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Educational Qualifications and Experience
- Engineering Graduates with Diploma in Industrial Safety from RLI/CLI or any Institute recognized by Odisha SCTEVT.
- Twelve to Eighteen (12 - 18) Years of relevant work experience in the Safety & Health function of large metal & mining /power generation / engineering industry.
Functional Skills
- Extensive Knowledge of Safety principles, safety standards, compliance requirements, and practices.
- Strong analytical ability and understanding of the safety risks associated with site Operation.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to create accurate risk perception.
- Ability to analyze and create accurate Safety risk perception.
- Ability to write and review technical reports.
- Aptitude for Digitization of performance metrics and Safety management system.
- Leadership skills & experience to lead and motivate a team and align them with functional objectives.
- Leadership skills in managing multiple stakeholders and help institutionalize Safety practices in the manner desired.
